Susanna Williams

Susanna Williams began sculpting in stone less than ten years ago. Since then sculpting has become nothing less than a passion. She has studied with Constantine Seferlis, a master stone carver who came to this country from Greece fifty years ago and was one of the four sculptors hired to carve the stone sculptures in the Washington Cathedral. She has also studied in Italy with Kyle Smith of Artspace (whose methods and studio have been featured in Sculptural Pursuit magazine). While in Italy, Susanna worked in the beautiful Carrara marble that is quarried from the mountains there.

At home in Charlottesville Virginia, alabaster, particularly the translucent alabasters are a favorite. She is experimenting in casting as well, both bronze and plaster.
Her works include figurative pieces, both realistic and stylized, as well as portraits also both realistic and abstract. Currently she is working on a series of pieces that express a continuum of individuals’ journeys toward their soul’s unfolding and an abstract fountain for an urban landscape.
