Kathy Troyer

I am a biologist currently employed as a medical writer in pharmaceutical research. I am, however, still in my animal-loving phase and expect to stay there! I began carving stone in late 2002 after a lifetime of loving 3-dimensional art but "having no time" for it; I was hooked immediately.

My themes are drawn from Nature-especially, the bodies and motions of animals. I continue to be fascinated by the interaction of form and function in living things. To portray an organism in stone is always a learning experience: I must see clearly how it is formed, and to do this, I must also understand its underlying structure.

I believe that there is no necessary conflict between art and science; the more we can understand, the more we can enjoy and admire.
